Mumbai, June 15, 2012: India is among the few countries where littering is rampant, despite the laws to control it. To instill a sense of responsibility and create awareness about cleanliness, Gala, India’s leading cleaning tool brand has launched a ‘Gala Clean-a-thon’. Reshmi Ghosh and Debina Bonnerjee visited housing societies from Malad, Kandivali, Thane and Mulund urging residents to support this crusade for cleanliness by pledging their support to Gala Clean-a-thon.
Sharon Gonsalves from Haridwar CHS-Malad, Shweta Tiwari from Sai Krupa CHS-Kandivali, S Guruprasad from Vasant Oscar-Mulund and Minal Nadkarni of Kavyadhara Co-operative Housing Society were declared as winners of the Gala Clean-a-thon held in their society.
Well known television celebrities Reshmi Ghosh and Debina Bonnerjee visited residents and got the residents of the society to take a pledge about keeping their surroundings clean. Both Reshmi and Debina were of the opinion that cleaning the house is not just a woman’s responsibility all the other family members have to actively participate and support them.
Speaking at the occasion Mr. Jatin Gala, COO, Freudenberg Gala Household Product Pvt. Ltd, India said “Everybody wants clean surroundings, but nobody is willing to make an effort to bring about that change. As a socially responsible corporate, Gala has taken a small step with Gala Clean-a-thon to inculcate the culture of cleanliness amongst citizens. We will urge the Society members to take a pledge to keep their surroundings clean thereby promoting healthy living”
Debina Bonnerjee, popular actress who plays role of Mayuri in TV serial Chidiya Ghar said “We often criticize systems about how wonderfully decorated our streets are with generous contribution of garbage, which we tend to add to. But we often forget that some of us are responsible for this garbage. When Gala Clean-a-thon approached me to be a part of this initiative, I gladly consented as I believe in leading by example.”
Reshmi Ghosh who plays the role of Urmila in popular TV series Piya Ka Ghar Pyara Lage pledged her support for this initiative and said “Gala Clean-a-thon is an endeavor focusing on mobilizing citizens to come out and participate rather then complain about their surroundings. It is an initiative to wake the conscience of Mumbaikar’s to keep their surroundings clean. We are involving people from each society to make a difference and I am proud to be a part of this initiative.”
This campaign is built to create awareness among citizens, get them to pledge and participate in cleanliness drives and contribute to the society by keeping their neighborhood clean. This campaign is implemented by Times Red Cell.
