With every passing year, terms like Goa, EDM and
Sunburn rake up quite a distorted and vaunted controversy with reports
about the organizers operating without police permissions, the state
home ministry’s concerns about security, usage of drugs, etc. doing the
rounds and raising avoidable.
Well, the good news is, Sunburn will be celebrating it’s 6th edition this year with a completely revamped format and brand new agenda.
According
to the information tabled on the floor of the House in the ongoing
assembly session, Sunburn paid almost 200 % hike to the government,
beating all major entertainment shows held in Goa, in terms of paying
‘entertainment tax’ for the financial year 2011-12. In response to a
question raised by an independent legislator, Vijay Sardesai, the Goa
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar categorically informed the Goa Assembly
that The Sunburn Electronic Dance Music Festival held in Candolim last
December contributed a whooping sum of Rs. 1.16-crores towards
entertainment tax which indeed was a remarkable accumulation in the Goa
Government kitty. The previous editions of the festivals conducted have
generated entertainment tax to the tune of Rs 39.68 lakhs in December
2010 and Rs. 14.29 lakhs in December 2009. There was also a significant
rise in the excise fees collected from Rs. 3,000 in 2009 and 2010 to Rs.
8.40 lakh in 2011 after the excise department hiked the liquor license
fees. Additionally, Percept also paid a total of Rs. 28, 12,500 towards
VAT to the government in 2011-12 for the very first time in 5 years of
its existence.
Against
such a backdrop, attached is the announcement press release that
affirms the North Goa venue of the Festival along with few other acts
thrown in for good measure.
We
would urge you to understand the magnitude of this piece of information
and use it in the best possible manner in your esteemed publication and
also throw light on the festival in an informative manner.
Please
do let us know if you would like to speak with Mr. Shailendra Singh,
