India, July 2012- What kind of a stellar act sells out 20,000 tickets at the celebrated Madison Square Garden situated in the heart of New York City, in nine minutes flat, giving the divas of pop and gods of rock a run for their money? The answer - an electronic dance music act called the Swedish House Mafia. And they could well be on their way to India this year.

Yes, you heard it right, apart from Sunburn, dance music fans may have a good reason to rejoice this year as the Swedish House Mafia who created worldwide history by grabbing major headlines is considering stopping by in India on their final world tour. The prominent DJ supergroup who officially set-up in 2008 is considering a visit towards the latter half of the year with a single city event in India before going their separate ways. The band consisting of three house disc jockeys and producers, Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso are a breathtaking phenomenon internationally with a noteworthy fan following in the sub-continent too. The individualistic musical expertise and dynamic knowledge of the three coupled with their collective history is the key to the Mafia’s continued success. Swedish House Mafia is a monster of its own with a long standing tradition of keeping audience's energy pulsating throughout the show with exclusive mixes and a "big-room house" bassline driven set.

Unfortunately, the band broke a million hearts when they recently announced through their website about their dissolution and that their current tour would be their last together as ‘Swedish House Mafia’. On 23 June 2012, it was announced via the group's website that the final leg of their 2012 tour would be their last: "Today we want to share with you, that the tour we are about to go on will be our last. We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came, we raved, we loved." They stated three show dates, with the last leg of their tour set to be announced in August. It is unknown whether the group members will collaborate with each other again.

Our sources inform us that the band’s last leg of their world tour will commence this November, with India being a very strong contender in their touring calendar. The band has expressed a desire to visit India during Diwali and their management is in constant dialogue with Submerge, India’s largest dance music collective and Indian promoter and popular music personality Nikhil Chinapa to explore this possibility. If the event were to take place, audiences will experience a world-class exytravaganza, with stage production the likes of which this country has never witnissed.  The band has delivered some hit singles like ‘One’ and ‘Miami to Ibiza’ that have gained top positions on international charts and continue to be top favorites at clubs.

In the fall of 2011, Swedish House Mafia proved to the world that electronic dance music industry was suddenly big enough to compete with Jay-Z or Phish in the world’s biggest venues. In September, the European DJ trio’s manager Amy Thomson, put a December 16th show at Madison Square Garden on sale via Facebook – and 20,000 tickets sold out almost instantly. Swedish House Mafia’s arena-sized house party profiled by a massive laser-and- pyro-fuelled spectacle completed the revolution of the new musical movement with electronic dance music moving away from DJs spinning in urban clubs to spearheading the international concert-biz phenomenon.

Nikhil Chinapa, Hermit Sethi and Pearl, the three directors at Submerge, India's first and largest electronic dance music company in India, are looking to create unique signature properties in the country going forward that serve as platforms to connect fans with their music idols. Over the years, they've been instrumental in bringing down to India almost every global stalwart from the dance music industry, including the likes of Armin Van Buuren, Axwell, Fatboy Slim, Above & Beyond, Gareth Emery, Markus Schulz, Mark Knight, Sander Van Doorn, Sultan & Ned Shepard, Norman Doray and many more. Submerge are also preferred partners of the Sunburn Festival, which is a Percept property.

Popular RJ, much loved VJ, Founder of Submerge and Festival Director of Sunburn Nikhil Chinapa  states, “Having been actively involved in the industry for over 15 years, I intimately understand the pulse of dance music in India. DJs and club culture has been around for a while but more in an unorganized fashion. I now aspire to build on this platform extensively in the coming years and move away from niche and embrace mass. Dance music has a huge market worldwide and it’s time we create fresher concepts and experiences to give audiences in India a taste of global entertainment. The stigma attached to dance music with the misinformed perception of events being dangerous is slowly disappearing with the genre’s mainstream success and audience reactions. We hope to see profitable and beneficial brand associations for Dance Music as a genre going forward. We are hoping to draw Swedish House Mafia fans from all across the region as this epic farewell act is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for fans to see them in India.

Speaking from across the globe, Swedish House Mafia reiterate, “Axwell has been telling us for years to visit India.  We’ve been watching from afar and he has already played and says it is one of the most vibrant scenes in the world.  We’re working hard with Nikhil to make that a reality and bringing our last tour to India for the first time!’

In perspective of the band’s announcement of disbanding, we are hoping music connoisseurs in India get a lifetime opportunity to witness the band in their full glory at least once on home ground. Nikhil Chinapa, we hope you are listening! With numerous concerts making a headway into India from Akon to Pitbull to Bryan Adams to Metallica to David Guetta, we are certain that this act by Swedes will give every dance music fan a night to remember.
