kan accessorize to design shoes for Masaba Gupta’s IIFA Glitterati Collections !

June, 2012: kan, a well established shoe couturier offering bespoke styles as well as engineered masterpieces, is designing the impeccably chic shoes for Masaba Gupta’s IIFA Glitterati collection, a range inspired by and cobranded with the IIFA Awards function. Walking the ramp in kan’ ‘coloured by kan’ collection are talented new comers – Zoa Morani, Aditi Rao Hydari, Shahazn Padamsee and Dia Mirza.

A self-confessed shoe junkie, Ileshaa Khatau of kan said, “Keeping in mind the aesthetics that both Masaba and the show stoppers bring to the show, kan has designed a collection of young and fresh heels and jutis. Known for our use of colour and Indian textiles, we’ve created a range of colour blocking heels, covered with contrasting shades of raw silk.” Ileshaa added, “To celebrate the success of the Awards ceremony, we have drawn on the IIFA sun as our chief motif and used it creatively in both our uppers, as well as on the heel. Additionally, kan has a display space where we will be acquainting guests with the process of handmade shoe making and gifting them pairs of kan’s handcrafted, unique and colourful shoes throughout the IIFA weekend.”

kan styles vary from classic pumps, peep-toes and slides to platforms, wedges and flats with an unconventional edge to satisfy every taste preference, and provide clients with “walkable chic”. The inspiration comes from nature’s best known elements such as the lotus as well as the peacock. Add a heady mix of spirituality and piety to get inspired by the mystical Gods and Goddesses and you have the enigmatic kan collection that rules your senses and entices your heart. With all the kan fabric, heel, sole, embroidery, embellishment and current style options on display, clients are able to pick and choose what suits them best in order to put together their ideal and irreplicable, one of a kind design. Once you, the client, have designed your very first and own pair, kan will manufacture them for your wear and enjoyment.

kan is currently in the process of launching its own studio, where they will offer clients a space to exercise their creative freedom by expanding their bespoke service. An auxiliary to their retail business, this specialized service allows customers to design their own shoes with the technical advice of designers. Clients may take appointments for consultations with the designer team, so that their shoes can be designed according to their specific needs ranging from weddings, pregnancies, problematic feet or bad backs.

Neomy added, “As a well established footwear company, with a strong clientele, we decided to have our own store. Offering bespoke style with increasing number of clients, we want to create a studio where the client can be interviewed and the requirements can be gauged based on their tastes and preferences. Here, we will provide the creative freedom to the client to design their own footwear. We want to be able to transform a store ideology into a place where a customer leaves satisfied with an impeccable shoe!”

kan brand profile

For too long, shoes in India have remained hidden under saris. Neomy started out with the desire to change this, to make shoes as beautiful as the cottons and silks that concealed them. With the help of designers and talented craftsmen, she juxtaposes diverse materials such as raw silk, faux leathers, brocades and suede, with embellishments such as payals, pearls, diamantes, and kundan work to name a few. Together, they endeavor to constantly innovate and to present a fusion of the East and West, style and comfort in their collections.

Neomy has always had a passion for fashion. She draws on her Indian heritage, its colours, motifs, fabrics and flair, as inspiration for her designs. Six years ago, she launched kan to take uncomfortable shoes in India by the heel, and clunky boring flats by the toe. Endeavoring to create stylish yet wearable designs, her motto was and still remains, to create more than a ‘car to (red) carpet shoe’.
