Gillo theatre repertory's new play, HANUMAN KI RAMAYAN, a play for both young and old audiences takes the form of a Swang Nautanki. Ila Ghosh writes about the production and the traditional performing art from North India in our Features' section.

We also have another interesting Feature for you this week. VASTRAHARAN, a play in Malvani (a dialect of Konkani with significant Marathi influences) has been one of the most successful productions in Indian theatre, with a record of over 5000 shows to date. Produced by the late Machindra Kambli's theatre company, Bhadrakali, the play has been renewed for 30 shows with an ensemble of well-known actors from Marathi theatre, television and film. With a box-office plan of Rs two lakh per show, the play is noteworthy not only for its immense popularity but also for the manner in which it succeeds to create theatre that bypasses all kinds of hierarchies that entrench theatre in India. Ramu Ramanathan presents us the phenomenon of VASTRAHARAN, while paying tribute to Kambli who played the original 'Tatya Sarpanch' in it.

You can also find about upcoming theatre workshops for children at the NCPA. Updated reviews include TABLE FOR TWO, directed by Digvijay Savant.

The India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) in collaboration with the Mohile Parikh Centre will be presenting Akansha Rastogi in discussion with Zasha Colah and Ashok Sukumaran. Akansha Rastogi, is the Associate Curator of the Kiran Nadar Museum. She discusses her exhibition - an archive of artist Ranbir Kaleka's studio. Akansha Rastogi inhabited and archived the studio as part of a curatorial residency in November 2011, which was supported by the IFA. Her work has opened up the discourse on curatorial practices in the country by raising critical questions on the relationship between artistic autonomy and curatorial practice. The event is scheduled to take place on 14th June 2012 at 6.30 pm at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) auditorium in Mumbai.
